Design Problem:
How can a teacher immerse a large group of students on an international trip in a way that's safe, organized, and engaging?
Solution:
Captain is a multi-device AI service that helps educators manage international trips with large numbers of K12 students. Captain helps these educators from the planning stages of collecting pre-travel documentation (like medical releases, conduct agreements, and student info) all the way through to keeping travelers and data organized while in transit or on the ground in a foreign country. Captain isn't simply a tracking device either: It engages the students along the way and helps them create a personalized connection with the places they travel. And of course, Captain gives the parents back home a little more peace of mind.
Captain is a collaboration between Amanda Jones, Sam Linville, and me. As the interaction designer of the group, I established the functionality and created the prototypes for the mobile application and the loop bracelet. I also aided in general concept creation, the graphics for the video below, and the process book.
